The project Development of transborder cooperation in the scope of prophylaxis, diagnosis and treatment of diseases transmitted by ticks in the regions of their endemic occurrence in the Polish-Belarusian borderland comes to the end.

During the summer months are carrying out the last tasks scheduled by us. Our partners already in June finished project implementation. On 10-11 June in Grodno was held the conference “Modern aspects of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of tick-borne diseases” summarizing the activities and effects of the project. It was attended by 90 doctors and diagnosticians from Belarus and Poland.

The first lecture was given by the doctor Iwona Ponurkiewicz, head of the Medical Diagnostic Laboratory in Hajnówka, who presented the common results of the project. Coordinator of the Infectious Ward of the IP HCU in Hajnówka, doctor Anna Nowicka-Ciełuszecka presented data on incidence of diseases at the Belarusian-Polish border for the period 2010-2015. Summary of the project was also made by medical consultant of the District Clinical Hospital of Infectious Diseases in Grodno, the head of the Infectious Ward of the Hospital in Grodno Danilewicz Natalia. The theme of the next lecture were tick-borne diseases in Belarus, the lecture was given by the Chief Specialist of Infectious Diseases of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus Karpov I.A. As the last, on the first day of the conference, her lecture gave the Director of the District Clinical Hospital of Infectious Diseases in Grodno, Dr Elena Krotkova. The lecture concerned epidemiological and clinical features of tick-borne encephalitis in the Grodno District. On the second day of the conference, its participants listened to the lecture on clinical-laboratory diversity of tick-borne diseases given by the head of the Infectious Diseases Department of the Grodno State Medical University, Prof Cyrkunov V.M.

During these two days all speakers stressed unanimously that the effects of the project are excellent final results which confirmed how justified and important for the Belarusian-Polish borderland was the project, as well as invaluable contacts and friendships that probably will result in further joint actions.
